Where’s Does The Term “Honeydrippin” Come From?

Back in the early 1940’s the term “honey” was a term used by black rhythm and blues artists for what could loosely be described as “love juice”. Over the years there were many songs that used the term in the lyrics. As R & B turned into “the blues” the term continued in use.  And the best known song of later years may be King Bee by Muddy Waters where he says…

“Well I’m a king bee
Buzzing around your hive
Well I’m a king bee, baby
Buzzing around your hive
Yeah I can make honey baby
Let me come inside”

You can’t get much more explicit than that.

Honeyboy has a slightly different definition. He uses the term to describe what happens when people are connecting on a very high level… like when they are making love or making music together. Honey is the “juice” that connects them together in these moments.

Sometimes during an especially intense moment of love-making or when musicians are truly connecting… some  of this juice leaks out.
